Definition
An acorn is the nut, or seed, of an oak tree. It's typically oval-shaped and has a cap-like structure at its base. Unlike other seeds dispersed by the wind, acorns rely on animals for dispersal. Think of it as a tiny package of potential, waiting to grow into a massive oak. Squirrels, jays, and other animals bury acorns, and some are forgotten, allowing them to germinate. They are a vital food source for wildlife, especially in the fall and winter months.
