Definition
Actinomyces are bacteria that often form branching filaments, resembling fungi. They're typically found in soil, water, and even in the human body, especially in the mouth. While some species are harmless or even beneficial, others can cause infections like actinomycosis. Think of them as the chameleons of the microbial world, able to adapt and sometimes cause trouble. They're not quite bacteria and not quite fungi, existing in a unique space. They are like the oddballs in a high school clique, not fitting neatly into any group.
