An "alligator wrench" is an old-fashioned type of wrench that has jaws with teeth, designed to grip pipes and fittings. Imagine it as a simplified version of a pipe wrench, resembling an alligator's mouth. It's not as versatile as modern adjustable wrenches, and it is more prone to slipping. Think of it as the great-grandparent of today's wrenches; still useful, but a bit clunkier. Unlike adjustable wrenches, it has a fixed size. Its usage has largely been replaced by more efficient tools.
