Definition
An allograph is a variant form of a letter in handwriting or typography. Think of the different ways you can write a lowercase 'a' – some people make a circle with a line, others just a simple curve ✍️. These variations are all allographs of the same letter. They don't change the meaning of the word, but they reflect individual style. Allographs are important in handwriting analysis and font design. Unlike different fonts, allographs are simply stylistic variations.
