Definition
An anchorite is a person who has retired to a solitary place for religious reasons, living a life of extreme seclusion. π They are similar to hermits but often take vows to remain in one location permanently. Imagine someone walled up in a small cell attached to a church, dedicating their life to prayer and contemplation. They intentionally isolate themselves from all human contact. Anchorites seek spiritual enlightenment through intense asceticism and devotion. They're like the ultimate stay-at-homers, but for God.
