'Anechoic' describes a space or environment that is free from echoes and reverberations. These are specially designed spaces that absorb virtually all sound. Think of an anechoic chamber, used for acoustic testing. In an anechoic environment, sounds are pure and uncolored by reflections. This can feel strange and disorienting because we're so used to hearing echoes in our everyday lives. It's an extremely 'dead' sound environment.
