Definition
An antlion is the larva of insects in the family Myrmeleontidae, famous for constructing cone-shaped pit traps in sandy soil to ensnare ants. These larvae lie in wait at the bottom, ambushing any insect that falls in. Adult antlions resemble damselflies but are less graceful in flight. They live in sandy areas globally. Envision them as miniature engineers and ambush specialists of the insect realm.
