Definition
An apomict is a plant that reproduces asexually through seeds, meaning the offspring are genetically identical to the mother plant. Itβs like cloning through seeds! Normal sexual reproduction involves the fusion of egg and sperm, but apomixis bypasses this process. This results in offspring that are genetically uniform and well-adapted to the mother's environment. Apomixis can be advantageous in stable environments. They don't require pollination.
