In astronomy and orbital mechanics, the apsis refers to the point of greatest or least distance of an orbiting body from its center of attraction. Think of it as the extreme points in an orbit's oval shape. For example, a planet's orbit around the sun has two apsides: the perihelion (closest point) and the aphelion (farthest point). π Similarly, a satellite orbiting Earth has perigee (closest) and apogee (farthest). It describes the highs and lows of an object's journey around another. Imagine a swing set; the apsis points are the highest points of your swing.
