Axolotls are aquatic salamanders native to Mexico, famous for their neoteny, meaning they retain larval features throughout adulthood. They have feathery gills and a tadpole-like dorsal fin. These salamanders are critically endangered due to habitat loss and pollution. They possess remarkable regenerative abilities, capable of regrowing limbs, spinal cords, and even parts of their brain. Think of them as Peter Pan in the salamander world, never growing up. They are a unique example of evolutionary adaptation.
