Definition
The Balkan Wars refer to two conflicts that took place in the Balkan Peninsula in the early 20th century (1912-1913). The First Balkan War involved the Balkan League (Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria, and Montenegro) against the Ottoman Empire, aiming to liberate territories in Europe still under Ottoman control. The Second Balkan War was fought among the Balkan League members themselves, primarily over the division of Macedonia. These wars significantly reshaped the map of the Balkans and contributed to the tensions that led to World War I. The Balkan Wars are like a group of friends arguing over who gets what slice of pizza. The conflict created new nations but also fueled ethnic tensions and rivalries.
