Definition
Basaltic describes something composed of or resembling basalt, a dark, fine-grained volcanic rock. It often refers to lava flows and landscapes formed by volcanic activity. Think of the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, made of basalt columns. Unlike sedimentary rocks, basalt is formed from cooled lava. It's a common rock type found on Earth and other planets. Basaltic terrains can be dramatic and otherworldly.
