Definition
A base runner is an offensive player in baseball who has reached base and is attempting to advance to the next base or score a run. ๐ They must be quick, agile, and aware of the game situation. Think of them as the sprinters of the baseball field. Unlike a batter who is trying to get on base, a base runner is already on base and trying to advance. They must make split-second decisions about when to steal a base or advance on a hit ball. A base runner is to baseball what a chess pawn is to chess, seemingly small but important.
