Definition
Basswood, also known as linden in Europe, is a deciduous tree with heart-shaped leaves and fragrant flowers. Consider it the soft-wooded wonder of North American forests. Its wood is prized for carving due to its smooth texture and ease of working. Unlike hardwoods, basswood is light and doesn't split easily. Bees love its flowers, which produce excellent honey. Basswood is both economically important and ecologically beneficial.
