Definition
Brachycephaly is a condition characterized by a relatively short and wide head shape. The term comes from Greek roots meaning "short head." It is usually determined by cephalic index which is a ratio of head width to head length. In infants, it can be caused by prolonged positioning on the back or sides. In adults, brachycephaly is simply a normal variation in head shape. Brachycephaly is not always a health concern, but in some cases, it can be associated with certain syndromes. πΆ
