Definition
The Cali Cartel was another major Colombian drug cartel that rose to prominence after the decline of the Medellín Cartel in the 1990s. They were the 'new kids on the block' in the drug trade, succeeding the Medellín Cartel. Unlike the Medellín Cartel's flamboyant violence, the Cali Cartel was known for its more sophisticated and business-like approach. They diversified their operations and cultivated relationships with corrupt officials. Think of them as the 'corporate' version of a drug cartel.
