Definition
Canada balsam is a natural resin obtained from the balsam fir tree (Abies balsamea). It is a viscous, sticky liquid that hardens into a transparent solid. Historically, it was used as an optical cement for lenses and microscope slides due to its clarity and refractive index similar to glass. Today, synthetic resins have largely replaced it. Think of it as the OG glue of the scientific world. ๐ฌ
