Definition
A cankerworm is the larva of certain moths in the Geometridae family that are known for damaging trees. π These caterpillars feed on the leaves of deciduous trees, often causing significant defoliation. Think of them as nature's tiny lawnmowers, but for trees. They move with a distinctive looping motion, earning them the nickname "inchworms". Cankerworms can be a significant pest in forests and urban landscapes. Their voracious appetites can weaken or even kill trees.
