Definition
A "caprifig" is a type of fig (Ficus carica) that is technically an inedible male fig. Its primary purpose is to facilitate pollination in certain cultivated fig varieties. Think of it as the wingman of the fig world, helping other figs succeed. Unlike the common fig, itβs filled with short-cycled flowers that host fig wasps. These wasps carry pollen from the caprifig to the Smyrna fig, enabling the production of edible fruit. So, while you wouldn't want to eat a caprifig, it's essential for the existence of many delicious figs. π
