A carrier wave is a radio frequency wave that’s modulated to carry information. Think of it as a blank canvas on which a message is painted. It's a steady signal that provides a base for transmitting audio, video, or data. Modulation changes some property of the carrier wave. Amplitude modulation (AM) varies the wave's height, while frequency modulation (FM) varies its frequency. Without a carrier wave, transmitting information over long distances would be extremely difficult. It's essential for radio broadcasting, television, and wireless communication.
