Definition
Castration is the removal of the testicles in males (or, less commonly, the ovaries in females). ⚕️ It leads to infertility and significant hormonal changes. While most commonly associated with animals, the term also applies to humans. Unlike sterilization, which only prevents reproduction, castration also eliminates the production of sex hormones. Castration can be performed for medical reasons (like treating certain cancers), or historically as a form of punishment. It is a serious and irreversible procedure with major physical and psychological consequences. Understandably, this is a very sensitive and controversial topic.
