Definition
"Cervix uteri" is the anatomical term for the cervix, the lower part of the uterus. It's the same as uterine cervix or just cervix, connecting the uterus to the vagina. Think of it as the gateway between the womb and the outside world. It allows menstrual blood to exit and sperm to enter. During pregnancy, the cervix uteri remains tightly closed. Labor causes it to dilate, allowing childbirth.
