The Chimakum were a Native American tribe who lived on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. They were known for their unique language, which was distantly related to Quileute. Tragically, the Chimakum people suffered greatly from disease and conflict with neighboring tribes, especially the Suquamish. By the late 19th century, their numbers dwindled significantly. Today, they are considered extinct as a distinct tribe, a stark reminder of the impacts of colonization and disease. Imagine them as a rare PokΓ©mon card that's almost impossible to find. π₯
