The term 'chimney swallow' is an older, less common name for what is now usually called a chimney swift. These birds are known for nesting in chimneys and other vertical structures. They are aerial acrobats, spending most of their lives in flight. Chimney swifts have tiny feet mainly used for clinging to rough surfaces. Unlike swallows, they cannot perch on wires. They are often confused with swallows due to their similar size and flight patterns.
