Definition
A cockchafer is a type of beetle, also known as a May bug or doodlebug, belonging to the genus Melolontha. These beetles are known for their clumsy flight and tendency to collide with objects. Think of them as the awkward fliers of the insect world. 🥴 The larvae, called grubs, live underground and feed on plant roots. Adults feed on leaves and flowers, often causing damage to trees and crops. Cockchafers are most active in the spring, hence the name "May bug". 🌸
