David Riesman (1909-2002) was an American sociologist famous for 'The Lonely Crowd'. He studied how people's personalities and behaviors shifted in modern society. Think of him as a social weather forecaster, predicting changes in how we relate to each other. He described 'tradition-directed,' 'inner-directed,' and 'other-directed' personalities, relating them to societal pressures. His work explored how advertising and mass media influence our sense of self. Riesman helped us understand how we're shaped by the world around us.
