Definition
A dead axle is a type of axle in a vehicle that does NOT provide driving power to the wheels. Think of it as a supporting beam for the wheels, like training wheels on a bike. It simply rotates freely without transferring any engine power. Unlike a live axle which drives the wheels, a dead axle just carries weight and enables rotation. Semis and trailers use dead axles to bear heavy loads. Basically, it's an axle that's just there for the ride.
