Definition
Dicynodontia is an extinct group of herbivorous therapsids. Therapsids are early relatives of mammals. Dicynodonts thrived during the Permian and Triassic periods. They were characterized by their two tusks and beak-like mouths. Think of them as the prehistoric equivalent of modern-day grazing animals. Their success shows the variety of life before the dinosaurs. Their fossils help us understand early mammal evolution.
