Definition
A digester is a container or system designed to break down organic matter through a process called digestion. This can happen with or without oxygen, known as anaerobic and aerobic digestion respectively. Think of it like a stomach for waste. Digesters are used in wastewater treatment plants and farms to process sewage, manure, and food scraps. They help reduce waste volume, produce biogas (a renewable energy source), and create nutrient-rich fertilizer.
