Definition
A dirigible is a type of airship that can be steered or controlled. Unlike a balloon that drifts with the wind, a dirigible has engines and rudders that allow it to be navigated. π Think of it as the difference between a sailboat and a raft; one has direction, the other doesn't. Dirigibles were popular in the early 20th century before airplanes became common. They are also sometimes called zeppelins, though that's technically a specific type of dirigible. Itβs like calling all sodas 'Coke'.
