Definition
Disembowelment is the act of removing or cutting open the abdomen and taking out the internal organs, especially the intestines. Itβs an extremely gruesome and typically fatal injury. It's often associated with torture or ritualistic practices in historical contexts. Think of it like tearing open a package and pulling out all the contents in a very violent way. This is thankfully rare in modern medicine but sometimes occurs in severe trauma. It's the opposite of a careful and controlled surgical incision.
