Definition
'Drupaceous' describes fruits that are classified as drupes. A drupe is a fleshy fruit with a thin skin and a central stone containing a seed. Examples include peaches, plums, cherries, and olives. The fruit develops from a single carpel, and the innermost layer of the fruit wall forms the hard stone. Drupaceous fruits are often juicy and sweet. The hard pit distinguishes them from other types of fleshy fruits.
