A dry dock, also known as a graving dock, is a basin that can be flooded to allow a ship to enter, then drained to allow work to be done on the hull. It's essentially a giant bathtub for ships! This allows repairs and maintenance below the waterline. Dry docks are vital for inspecting and repairing ships. Think of it as a hospital for boats. The 'dry' refers to the emptied state, exposing the ship's submerged parts.
