Definition
Elanoides is a genus containing only one species, the swallow-tailed kite (Elanoides forficatus). This kite is known for its elegant flight and distinctive forked tail. It is found in the Americas, ranging from the southeastern United States to Argentina. Swallow-tailed kites feed primarily on insects, lizards, and small frogs. Their graceful flight and striking appearance make them a favorite among birdwatchers. They inhabit wooded areas near water. Their population has declined in some areas due to habitat loss.
