Definition
Enarthrosis is an older, more technical term for a ball-and-socket joint. It highlights the way one bone fits deeply into another. Imagine a globe nestled in its stand 🌎; it can spin in many directions. This type of joint offers a wide range of movement: flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, rotation, and circumduction. The hip and shoulder joints are classic examples. Although less common in everyday language, 'enarthrosis' is still used in medical contexts.
