Definition
A fir cone is the seed-bearing structure of fir trees. Think of it as a natural seed dispenser 🌰. They are typically cylindrical or cone-shaped. They consist of scales arranged around a central axis. Each scale bears one or two seeds. Unlike pine cones, fir cones usually stand upright on the branches. The cones disintegrate while still on the tree to release the seeds. The structure optimizes seed dispersal.
