A foehn (or fohn) is a warm, dry downslope wind occurring on the leeward side of a mountain range ⛰️. Picture air being forced up a mountain, shedding moisture as it rises, then rushing down the opposite side, warming as it descends. This process creates a hot, dry wind, frequently melting snow quickly. Foehn winds are prevalent in the Alps and other mountainous areas. They can induce rapid temperature increases and reduce humidity levels. Unlike a typical breeze, a foehn is created by particular topographical conditions. It's a climatic phenomenon with marked effects on local climates.
