A 'friction match' is a type of match that ignites when rubbed against a rough or specially prepared surface. The heat generated by the friction causes the chemicals on the match head to react, producing a flame 🔥. It's the most common type of match we use today. Unlike older types of matches, friction matches are relatively safe and easy to use. Think of it as a tiny, controlled chemical reaction. The striking surface often contains red phosphorus.
