Definition
A ganglion cell is a type of neuron located in the retina of the eye. đ These cells receive visual information from photoreceptors (rods and cones) via intermediate neurons. They then transmit this information to the brain for processing. Think of them as the communication lines sending images from your eye to your brain's visual cortex. Without ganglion cells, you wouldn't be able to see! They are crucial for visual perception, kind of like messengers carrying important news. The information travels through the optic nerve, which is composed of axons of ganglion cells.
