Definition
A ganglion is a cluster of nerve cells, acting like a relay station for nerve signals. It's found outside the central nervous system. Ganglia process and transmit information, making them vital for peripheral nerve function. Think of it as a local hub for messages before they reach the main office (brain). They're often located along the spinal cord or in the autonomic nervous system. A common example is a dorsal root ganglion, containing sensory neuron cell bodies. It can be related to a cyst but a ganglion is composed of nerve cells.
