Definition
Genus Cyclops refers to a group (genus) of tiny crustaceans found in fresh water. They are part of the copepod family and are known for having a single, median eye, reminiscent of the mythical Cyclops. These creatures are small, usually only a millimeter or two in length. They are important members of the freshwater ecosystem. Cyclops feed on algae and other small organisms. They, in turn, serve as a food source for larger animals, like fish.
