Gorgonian coral, also known as sea fans or sea whips, are colonial marine animals that form branching structures. These soft corals sway with the ocean currents, adding a dynamic element to reefs. Unlike stony corals, they possess a flexible skeleton made of gorgonin. They come in various colors, from vibrant purples and yellows to more muted browns. They provide habitat for various marine organisms. Gorgonian corals are filter feeders, capturing plankton from the water column.
