Definition
A halberdier was a soldier, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries, armed with a halberd, a combined spear and battle-axe. Think of them as the medieval equivalent of modern-day security guards, but with way more intimidating weapons. Halberdiers were often part of a royal or noble guard. They protected important figures and maintained order. Unlike a knight, they were foot soldiers. Imagine a SWAT team member, but their weapon is a big axe-spear.
