Definition
Harmonics refer to the series of tones that are part of a complex sound. When a musical instrument (or anything that vibrates) produces a sound, it doesn't just create one pure tone. Instead, it creates a fundamental tone (the main one you hear) and a series of additional tones called harmonics or overtones. These harmonics are multiples of the fundamental frequency and give each instrument its unique sound. Theyβre why a guitar sounds different from a piano, even when playing the same note. Harmonics add richness and complexity to sound.
