Definition
The hip socket, also known as the acetabulum, is the cup-shaped depression in your pelvis that receives the head of the femur (thigh bone). It's the point where your leg connects to your body. Think of it as the trailer hitch for your leg. It allows for a wide range of motion in your hip joint. It provides stability and support for your leg. Injury to the hip socket can limit mobility and cause pain. It’s the primary weight-bearing joint in the body.
