Definition
A host is an organism that harbors a parasite or symbiont, typically providing nourishment and shelter. Think of it as a landlord providing room and board, whether willingly or not. Unlike predators that hunt, hosts are simply inhabited. The relationship can be beneficial, harmful, or neutral. A plant providing nectar to a bee is a host in a beneficial symbiosis. A person infected with a virus is a host in a parasitic relationship. 🏠
