Definition
The hymen is a thin membrane that may partially cover the opening of the vagina. It varies in size and shape from person to person. Some individuals are born without a hymen, while others have a hymen that stretches or tears easily during normal activities like exercise or tampon use. The presence or absence of a hymen is not an indicator of virginity or sexual activity. It's a normal part of female anatomy. It has been subject to cultural misunderstanding.
