Definition
A hyperon is a type of subatomic particle that belongs to the baryon family. Baryons are made up of three quarks. Hyperons, however, contain at least one strange quark, which distinguishes them from ordinary protons and neutrons. They are unstable and decay rapidly into other particles. Imagine them as the 'exotic' cousins of protons and neutrons; heavier and more fleeting. βοΈ Their study helps physicists understand the fundamental forces of nature.
