Ian Smith (1919–2007) was a Rhodesian politician, Prime Minister of Rhodesia from 1964 to 1979. He is known for declaring Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI) from the United Kingdom in 1965. Smith's policies perpetuated white minority rule in Rhodesia. He became a controversial figure due to his stance on racial segregation. Think of him as a figure akin to historical leaders who resisted decolonization.
