Intension (sometimes called sense) refers to the inherent qualities or attributes that define a concept or word. It's what you need to know to identify something as belonging to a particular category. The intension of a word is a collection of properties. Think of it as the set of criteria that something must meet to be considered a certain thing. For example, the intension of 'square' is 'a four-sided figure with equal sides and four right angles'.
